Privacy Policy — Long Chat Booster for ChatGPT
Long Chat Booster for ChatGPT improves browser-side performance for long ChatGPT conversations, especially coding and development chats. Its performance and safety processing is performed locally in the user's browser.
Information the extension processes
The extension locally processes supported ChatGPT page and browser state needed for its performance and safety features. This can include whether a tab is active or in the background, whether ChatGPT appears to be generating, whether an unsent draft or attachment/upload/voice state appears active, rendering pressure and long-task information, and local Chromium performance metrics for an eligible supported ChatGPT tab.
The extension may inspect ChatGPT page structure to optimize older off-screen content. It may read the composer locally to determine whether draft text exists, but it does not send that draft text to the developer.
Conversation contents
Long Chat Booster does not transmit ChatGPT prompts, responses, conversation text, conversation titles, or code from ChatGPT to the developer, an analytics provider, or an advertising service. It does not use conversation content for advertising or profiling and does not sell user data.
Local storage
The extension uses browser extension storage for preferences, aggregate counters, lifecycle and safety settings, temporary protection state, optional scroll-restoration state, support-reminder preferences, and Smart Reset cooldown/rate-limit timestamps.
Smart Reset rate-limit state is used only to prevent repeated reset/reload loops. Raw conversation URLs and titles are not stored in this reset budget.
Chromium Debugger API
Long Chat Booster requests Chromium's debugger permission for Smart Runaway Protection. Before attachment, the extension requires an exact supported ChatGPT host, a hidden/background tab, high-confidence active generation, local page-pressure evidence, and additional safety conditions. The URL and eligibility are checked again immediately before and after attachment.
The Debugger API is used to read local Chromium performance metrics. Version 0.2.1 does not use it to keep the page artificially CPU-throttled. The debugger is detached when the check is no longer eligible and before an automatic runaway renderer is discarded.
Chromium may display a browser-level security message saying that the extension has started debugging the browser while the Debugger API is attached. Long Chat Booster does not deliberately attach the debugger to unrelated websites. Debugger performance metrics are processed locally and are not transmitted to the developer.
Smart Runaway Protection
If a hidden ChatGPT tab is actively generating and its renderer remains at sustained unusually high load across repeated checks, the extension may discard the runaway background renderer after safety checks.
The automatic recovery path does not immediately reload the tab. The discarded tab is left sleeping until the user deliberately returns to it. This avoids repeated automatic ChatGPT requests.
Automatic runaway protection does not target the tab currently being used and excludes protected, pinned, audible/voice-active, draft-bearing, upload/attachment-active, navigating, and other unsafe states.
Smart Reset
If the user explicitly selects Smart Reset for an overloaded ChatGPT tab, the extension may interrupt the current renderer. For a background tab, the renderer is discarded and left sleeping until the user returns.
For the active tab, the extension temporarily opens a local extension cooldown page so the original ChatGPT tab can become inactive, discards the original renderer, waits briefly, and then activates the same ChatGPT tab once. Activating the discarded tab causes the browser to reconstruct the same conversation.
Smart Reset uses per-tab cooldowns and a browser-session hourly reset budget to prevent repeated reset/reload loops. If the cooldown or budget is reached, the extension refuses another reset until the protection window expires.
Smart Reset may interrupt an in-progress generated response. The extension does not intentionally delete the user's ChatGPT conversation.
Safe background sleeping
Completed inactive ChatGPT tabs may be discarded after safety checks. A discarded tab remains visible in the browser tab strip and is reconstructed when the user activates it.
Permissions and site access
- storage — local preferences, counters, safety state, support preferences, and reset cooldown state.
- alarms — low-frequency lifecycle and watchdog checks.
- debugger — local performance metrics for eligible supported ChatGPT tabs.
- ChatGPT host access — rendering optimization, generation/safety checks, and guarded tab management on supported ChatGPT domains.
The extension requests access only to https://chatgpt.com/* and https://chat.openai.com/*. It does not request broad access to unrelated websites.
Analytics, advertising, and remote code
Long Chat Booster does not include developer analytics or advertising trackers and does not build advertising profiles from ChatGPT activity. Runtime JavaScript and CSS are packaged with the extension; it does not download or execute remote JavaScript, WebAssembly, or other executable code.
Optional PayPal support
The extension includes an optional support page with a locally packaged PayPal QR image. Support is voluntary and reminders can be dismissed or disabled. If a user chooses to interact with PayPal, PayPal's own services and privacy terms apply. Long Chat Booster does not process or receive the user's PayPal password or payment-card credentials and does not send ChatGPT conversation contents to PayPal.
